New on iTunes

"In a long overdue move, all the major record labels have agreed to allow Apple to sell tracks without the much-maligned DRM software that limits consumers' ability to transfer music.
As of today, iTunes will sell eight million tracks DRM-free; by March, all 10 million tracks in the company's catalogue will be available without the software." – Wendy Davis, The daily Online Examiner, A MediaPost Publication

I've been waiting the entire life of iTunes for this! Now all I need to do is make sure that iTunes included/will include a way to unlock all the currently protected tracks that users own.

Now I can effortlessly share all of mine and my roomate's music on my Linux Music Box over my local network.

Now I can effortlessly take his music on the go without having to worry about reaching the 'Authorized Users Limit' in iTunes.

Now I can sleep easy knowing that the music industry will not crap on me if I decide to share some music.

Now I also know why RIAA stopped prosecuting individual sharers, which makes me wonder if they will also stop ISP limitations.

[References to those topics will come soon. I'm at work and should be working.]

ALRIGHT! Sony BMG will begin selling music that is not DRM [Digital Rights Management] protected.

I like this.

Its another catch22 of our times.

Musicians make music to make a living.

Record companies sell music to give the musicians a living.

We [the digital consumer] digital-ize music and spread it like Atlanta-kudzu.

I still buy music. I still spread music. Most of all, I listen to music and appreciate music.

[How's that for a micro-post?]

Some people out there are so gosh darn motivated! When I work with people I tend to observe a major part of their personality. How a person works is a great defining point. In my marketing class I spent time collaborating with two others on various projects throughout the semester. We worked well together as a group by aggregating certain work to each other and also taking into regard each others schedules and workload. It was nice for someone to say to me, "It seems like you’ve had a full week, why don’t I do this part of the assignment for you this time." There are also times when I would sit down and do a good majority of that weeks group assignment for my group and myself just to get it done my way. [Yes, sometimes I have control issues...] All in all, the group work is finished, the semester is winding down. I feel confident that we did a great job together.

Ahh, managing inter-work relationships. One of the most interesting topics I’ve pondered. At my job there are the "He is not doing as much work as I am, so why should I?", the "It doesn’t matter who is working where, let’s just get it done.", the "I’ve been here longer, you do my work for me.", the "I don’t get paid enough to do all this work." There are so many outlooks on work that it may often be difficult to put together an efficient team.

A team needs 3 elements [in any combination, with any amount of members- although generally not too many] : Tenacity, Creativity, and Modesty.

Tenacity enables a team to push forward and take control of the situation.

Creativity allows a team to be able to accommodate for setbacks and be efficient in innovation.

Modesty helps the members of the team step backward and forward so not one single person is being the tenacious or creative one.

[[A simplification of an enormously complicated topic which many managers face. Globalization also makes it difficult to construct a well-oiled team as people sometimes do not know how to interact with strangers. Makes me appreciate that most colleges are requiring courses on Diversity, Building Personal Relationships, and others of that sort.]]

Think about Live Earth on 7-7-07
Just think about it. A global concert and awareness event. This is a major step in converting the idea of global climate and environmental change from a mere pipe-dream to reality. I did some quick math calculations and with Live Earth concerts showing at 8 worldwide locations, with an average of 100,000 expected attendance per venue, and tickets being sold for an average of $100US each: ticket sales should soar past $100 million USD. If you factor in worldwide media coverage of this event I don’t even want to look at the numbers of people who will see the event via television, radio, and the internet. I have a feeling this event will blow Live Aid of 1985 out of the water in terms of widespread coverage and contribution. Live Aid was a globally covered concert put on to raise funds for famine relief in Ethiopia.

I wish I was able to afford tickets because I do believe it is for a good cause and also the music artists performing at the NY concert are a once in a lifetime collaboration. Smashing Pumpkins, The Police, Dave Matthews Band, Roger Waters, Kanye West, and Bon Jovi– just to mention a few. And, yes, Al Gore is a major player but we don’t need to think about that.

Just think about it

DRm is going down! Well… maybe not, but Apple and EMI Group Plc. have just reached an agreement allowing the free spread of EMI label’s music on iTunes. This means greater and greater freedom for those internet bodies who download and spread music, beginning trends and oftentimes greater success for artists. EMI is the licensed distributor for music of 60′s pop band, The Beatles.

Also, I noticed, that Puretracks, another music license holder had abolished DRm protection for their music! 2007 is slowly giving way to a rise in the death rate of DRm protected tracks. Who knows how many more companies will join in. Maybe some, maybe none, maybe a lot. I will definitely be keeping track of who, when, and why.

I do fully support the sale of music, and contributing to an artists hard work and willingness to share their talent with the rest of us. [That sounds a bit-- tacky--]
